LAND MANAGEMENT AT WATER VALLEY

Water Valley has a very serious management program.
With over 30,000 acres to hunt, farming is a very important aspect to the management program. Each winter there are over 200 winter food plots planted for wildlife. As important is the spring and summer planting, which helps wildlife ease through the dry months of summer.

Iron clay peas have become a favorite at Water Valley as well as chufa, soybeans, corn, wheat, clover, rye and oats. Also supplementary feeds of corn and soybeans are bought at the Mobile docks and trucked to silos on the Water Valley property. From here it is hauled into the woods and shoveled into large feeders, scattered throughout the property. This ensures plenty of calories for young animals as well as healthy protein supplement for the animals growing horns.

At Water Valley the hunting is divided into three areas. We hunt a 23,000 acre trophy management area. Bucks here must have eight main beam points and a 15" spread or better. Within the overall trophy management area there are three areas that are considered trophy areas. There is a $500. kill (or wound) fee in these areas. The remainder of our trophy management area does not have a trophy fee. However, there is a fee of $500.00 if the animal is too small.

The non-trophy area is a 7,000 acre area. Bucks here must have 6 main beam points. There is no additional charge to take an animal this size or better. However there is a fee of $500.00 if the animal is too small.

We harvest doe from selected areas. We ask that any doe harvested weigh 100 pounds or better. We do not take doe everywhere so we ask to be told when a hunter wants to take a doe. We have a "No does after 5:00pm" rule. Those 5 o'clock shadows can play tricks on one's eyes.

At Water Valley this means that 1 buck and unlimited hogs can be taken each day; One doe per trip. Varmints can be hunted year round at no extra cost to hunters.
